Very interesting, stock parts and good torque/power
How much boost can handle a stock T4 with your setup?

Re: 1303 'Versuchsfahrzeug'
Yes, that IS interesting huh? Funny how rumours of things 'that can't be done' live on for decades... I must have busted a dozen of those myths by now...Superflo a écrit :Very interesting, stock parts and good torque/power

Good question how much boost a stock engine can handle and can't answer that yet, but I am about to find out
I did accidently block the wastegate last saturday evening before the meeting (several times..), trying to control boost with the ecu and had a highest reading in the datalog of 1.3 bar turbopressure... Acceleration in second gear between 0.5 and 1 bar boost is scary!
Engine still lives on apperently and without any leaks, but that high pressure was only very briefly. I think (..) 0.7 bar boost would be safe for everyday use or maybe trackday use. 0.5 bar obviously is very safe as the engine didn't even get 1 Celcius warmer, not even on head temperatures.
I will run 1 bar for dragracing (EBI-2?) and dynoday though. At least that is my plan.

Re: 1303 'Versuchsfahrzeug'
merci Kevin, tres chic!
Today I did a test run with the adjusted fuel pressure and 1.0/0.95 bar boost pressure: 212,5 km/u in 5th gear and 5200 rpm! I did let go just over 200 km/h, but more speed would have been very possible.
Its amazing at how it accelerates now!
Temps: At over 200 km/u: Head temp: 355F, Oil temp 85 C and IAT 33 Celcius... I think thats durable power

Re: 1303 'Versuchsfahrzeug'
Very nice job ! Is your Safeguard linked to the ecu ? or did it work standalone ? where dit you put the knock sensor ?
I know this is a lot of questions at the same time , but i ran an engine similar to yours and you seem to set it up faster than me . . .

Re: 1303 'Versuchsfahrzeug'
The Safeguard is a stand-alone unit. It is switched in between the spark signal that the ecu wants to give and the DIS coil. Its actually pretty simple with regarding to wiring it up. But no worries, the Safeguard comes with a schematic how to hook it up if you have a ecu and DISKamperRS a écrit :Very nice job ! Is your Safeguard linked to the ecu ? or did it work standalone?
If you also want one for use with an ecu that also controls spark, better not order it through aircooled.net as they send you the wrong one...ask me how I know...Best to contact Jack Rizzo from J&S directly and get a 'Vampire' unit. That is the latest one specifically for ecu+DIS (which I also have)
The knock sensor itself (a regular Bosch unit) is now installed on one of the engine case half bolts. I used the one where you usually put the bell-crank linkage onto. It doesn't really matter that much where you put it on the case with the safeguard as long as it is solidly mounted. The bell-crank part of the engine case seems favourable.where did you put the knock sensor ?
No worries, if you have specific technical questions, I'll always am happy to share my findings.I know this is a lot of questions at the same time , but i ran an engine similar to yours and you seem to set it up faster than me . . .
CU @ EBI again?
Regards,
Walter

Re: 1303 'Versuchsfahrzeug'
Audjourdhui 'Dyno-day' pour le 2.0 @ 1 bar boost
Photo avant departure:
Le disque avant: 330x28mm:
This time at a 'real' rolling road dyno (same as I tested the 2,7 ltr on).
We put a fan on the intercooler for obvious reasons:
Checking inlet temps recorded by the ecu, but all was well (28 C):
The results: 222 FWHP at 5350 tpm and 305 Nm (225 lbs.ft) @ 4750 tpm (left scale)
195.0 RearWheel HP (right scale). That is both MORE than the 2,7 ltr (191,5 RWHP and 270Nm or 200 lbs.ft) made!!
The 2,7 had a bit more torque down low, but even so 30Nm (25 lbs.ft) more is quite a bit...
To say I am happy with the result is an understatement, but I am also very amazed I must confess..
"c'est ne pas possible de turbo un type 4"
Myth busted
