Salut!

Finally remembered the name of the new site, so will give you a little presentation of my project in progress.

Some people might already know me as the webmaster of http://www.keversite.nl, but I am also building a 'german-style' car. As speaking I'm a 20 years old Automotive Engineering student living in The Netherlands.

The car is based on a chassis from '73, but all parts around it are gathered from many different other cars. The body from a '84 Velvet Red Beetle is mostly converted to a '65 model. The chassis is converted to an IRS rear-suspension and features a 914-transmission.

Let's talk pictures.

This is how it started in the autumn of 2003:

Some pictures of the bodywork done myself:

Meanwhile I worked on the chassis.

When all this was done, chassis and body were temporary merged, because of an indoor show in the Netherlands.

After that the chassis and body were seperated again.

Installed headliner:

Chassis almost ready:

Chassis

» 914 transmission with custom nosecone and shift-linkage
» Porsche Boxster S wheels
» 195/45/17 fronttires Goodyear Eagle F1
» 215/45/17 reartires Goodyear Eagle F1
» stock beetle frontdiscs an reardrums 5x130 (will be upgraded in future)
» front: Koni Red, 15mm Eibach stabi and larger camber-adjusters
» rear: KYB-GR2 and 19mm Bugpack IRS stabi
» all rubbers replaced by stiff urethane
» self-made Cup-Strebe

Time for the body again:

For now I will use VW GolfII GTI seats

And finally back at the chassis again:

At the moment I am completing the custom wiring and several other small things. From now it won't take much time to get it street legal and drive it. After that I will continue to change and improve things, but that's just a matter of time (and money)!

More pictures and info can be found at:

» IRS Conversion
» 914 transmission

Just ask about things you want more information about; above is just a fast presentation.

Best regards,
Aart-Jan

Oh, forgot to mention that one.

For now the engine will be limited by my budget, so I'm going to do some experimental work on a 1585cc Type1 engine. But first I'm going to mount MegaSquirt with some 1600i hardware and just drive (and datalog) to learn the car and engine better.

Thanks for all the kind words! Will try to keep this topic updated when I make some progress.

The brakes. Yes they are on the things-to-do list, but haven't deceided yet which brakes I want to take and when.
